Description |
This clean El Camino is a nice looking, great driving, fun vehicle. It's an attention getting daily driver, but not show quality. There are some very minor imperfections here and there, but no signs of any heavy collision damage. The subdued off white paint color contrasts nicely with the black interior and looks great. The bed has some light use over the years and there are some dings and imperfections in the bed moldings. The bumpers are originals, and the front one is nice, but there are some dings and light pitting on the rear one. There is no rust or rot repair around the windows or anywhere on the lower body panels. At some point the weatherstrips must have been leaking, causing some deterioration of the floor pans. The amateur repairs that were done at the time are very solid and functional, but not particularly beautiful. Of course since then, the front and rear windows have been resealed, and all the weatherstrips have been replaced. The doors and tailgate fit and close well, and the door windows roll up and down easily with all new channels and window felts installed The interior has been treated to new reproduction carpets, door panels, and dash pad. The custom seat cover was made using Impala inserts and emblems. It stays cool in the sun, and most people won't notice the difference right away. The headliner and visors are still original and in presentable condition. The heater, defroster and air vents are all operational. All the dash gauges, indicator lights and panel lights work, as well as the turnsignals and horn. The original radio is present and in good working order. Other features include a Vega GT steering wheel, and B&M Shifter. It's powertrain consists of an 80's vintage 350 with many performance improvements (MSD Ignition, Edelbrock Manifold and Carb.) and appearance add-ons (Billet Pulleys, Polished Water Pump). Aside from the visible items, the engine has a mild performance cam with gear drive (it's quiet, and almost unnoticeable) and a High Volume Moroso oil pan. It's running a Turbo Hydro 350 transmission, with a shift kit. The Turbo mufflers and 2 1/4" pipes give it a nice Muscle Car sound without being too loud or raspy The front suspension is tight and was rebuilt only a few thousand miles ago. The sway bars are 1 3/8" diameter in the front, and 1" diameter in the rear. Aftermarket front coils were installed to give it the slight rake you see. It will really turn a corner or two compared to a stock El Camino or Chevelle. For some reason, even with all these modifications, it was never converted to disc brakes. The drum brakes work well, but converting it to discs would be cheap insurance. The cool US Mag Wheels are in very good condition with just a bare minimum of nicks and scratches. The spare tire, bumper jack and hardware are in place. |
